Hammer with a Heart

Ron, Ted and Shay did the project; couple around 50 years old with 5 kids; house was totally cluttered. Man is a carpenter and they keep everything. They all went through stuff and sorted/threw things away.

District Conference

Randy went on Friday; numbers are down. We are doing a lot better than other groups out there. Being smaller probably helps. One group lost over 10% this past year. Priority is memberships for the district. Bev went to the speeches Friday and Saturday afternoon. There was an astronaut, a polio survivor and there were some other interesting speakers.

Habitat

Bob Lorenz reported that they’re still struggling to pay off their loan. We will send money July 1.

Thoman asked about getting members to the group. Randy said to just keep getting the word out about Rotary. Just getting folks to the meetings is good.

Happy Birthday to Bev!

Happy/ Sad Dollars

- Paul has $5; got a call from oldest son and he’s back from Afghanistan. It’s been five years since Paul didn’t have a son/grandson in a war zone.

- Bev for the Rotary Convention and for us singing happy birthday.

- Melissa gave correction for Bren’s happy dollar that we got Bin Laden.

Ted and Mary went to Tanzania (E. Africa). They stayed in the Serengeti plain, a forest national park, and a big crater. Animals are protected in the park area. Ted and Mary went with another couple and those four were with one guide which was great. They really got to plan their trip according to what they wanted to do. Lots of elephants.

Beautiful, elegant giraffes. The lions are the most fearsome predators. They hide in the grass. Leopards capture small animals and drag them up into a tree so they can’t be bothered, then hyenas wait under the tree and eat the bones. Wildebeests and zebra are the most prevalent. They migrate together.

They found their group “World Group Safaries” through another couple at church.
